Outlaws Thrill Crowd with Close Racing
Outlaws Thrill Crowd with Close Racing
By Tony Mancuso
(June 3, 2005 – Hartford, Ohio) With overcast skies all evening, the World of Outlaws Sprint Series presented by Harley Davidson of Youngstown completed their seventh show on the 3/8-mile oval at Sharon Speedway. The “Greatest Show on Dirt” provided fast, tight racing throughout the night of action. In the 40-lap A-main event, Jason Meyers took home the checkered flag for his second win of the season. The evening started with a threat of rain, but in the end the moisture held off to allow for a close night of racing.
In qualifying, Bob Felmlee was the quick man with a time of 13.146. The Outlaws ran four heat races. The winners of the heats were Steve Kinser, Paul McMahan, Chad Kemenah and Ryan Coniam. Craig Dollansky and Cody Geidart transferred to the B-main after a first and second place finish in the C-main race. Brooke Tatnell won the B-main event. Kraig Kinser, Brian Paulus and Ed Lynch Jr. also transferred to the A-main event with their finishing spots in the B-main. Jason Sides won the Stacker 2 Dash to earn the pole for the A-main. Danny “The Dude” Lasoski won the second dash to earn a second place starting spot for the feature.
In the 40-lap A-main event for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, “Hot Foot” Jason Meyers used gas mileage to take the checkered flag after bad luck for Joey Saldana. Jason Sides and Danny Lasoski led the field to the green flag before Jason Solwold lost it in turn 4 before a lap was in the books. The Solwold spin caused a chain reaction event, and Ed Lynch Jr. flipped between turns 3 and 4, but escaped from the car uninjured. With Sides in the lead, Meyers moved to fourth on lap 2. On lap 7, Jason Meyers moved past Joey Saldana in the Volcano Joe’s car for third. Danny Lasoski slowed to allow Jason Meyers to move to second. Lasoski brought out the caution flag with a problem in the rear of the car. Sammy Swindell in the Wirtgen #5 car also slowed and retired from the race under that caution. The restart saw Jason Meyers challenge Jason Sides on the low side of turns 1 and 2. Sides held off Meyers to retain the lead on the backstretch. Lap 16 had Saldana move around Meyers with a slide-job in turn 2 to take second, but Meyers moved back around Saldana before the two got to turn 3. Jason Meyers, 2003 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year moved to the low side of turn 2 to take the lead on lap 17. Kraig Kinser, all the way from 15th starting spot, looked to the high side of Donny Schatz for third. Schatz eventually slowed on the back side of the 3/8-mile oval to relinquish fourth position to the entire field. Following a caution for the slowing Schatz, “The Brownsbug Bullet,” Joey Saldana forced Jason Meyers to brush the wall on the exit of turn 2 on his way to the lead. Joey Saldana streaked away from the pack to take a two second lead by lap 31. Shane Stewart and Paul McMahan in the 11H Maxim battled side-by-side for eight laps around Sharon Speedway before Joey Saldana slowed in turns 1 and 2 as he ran out of gas to give the lead to Jason Meyers. Kraig Kinser, while running second, also ran out of fuel exiting turn 4 while coming to the green flag for the restart. With three laps remaining, Paul McMahan looked low in turn 1 as he closed on Meyers, but Meyers was able to hold him off. Shane Stewart looked to the high side of McMahan to take second on lap 39. From there, Jason Meyers cruised to the victory with Stewart in second. However, Stewart was ruled to be underweight as the cars crossed the scales eliminating him from his second place in the 40-lap main event. With that unfortunate occurrence, Paul McMahan moved to second and Brooke Tatnell was third. Daryn Pittman, all the way from 24th starting spot brought the Titan Garages #21 car home in fourth, with Dale Blaney, of Harford, Ohio, rounding out the top five finishers. Steve Kinser, from 21st, was sixth, Tim Shaffer finished seventh, Craig Dollansky, with a provisional, finished eighth, Chad Kemenah was ninth and Kenny Jacobs finished tenth.
The TUSA Mod-Lites were also in attendance to accompany the Outlaws. Kyle Anderson, all the way from Houston, TX took the checkered flag after a pass to the high side for the lead on lap 16 of the 20 lap feature event. Anderson moved from seventh starting spot to the lead to take the checkered flag. Kevin and Ken Meadows led the field to the green flag. Mark Marcucci took the lead on lap 2 before he spun in turn 3. Following the restart, Anderson moved his way to second before setting up Mikey Hay for a series of laps to take the lead. Following Anderson, Hay was second, Brian Woodhall was third, Chris Logan was fourth and Brian Wheatley rounded out the top five finishers.
